Nous avons le triste devoir d’annoncer la disparition soudaine de Michel Baud qui est décédé le jeudi 13 septembre 2012 à l’âge de 49 ans.
Après six années passées au Département des antiquités égyptiennes du musée du Louvre, organisant parmi d’autres tâches l’exposition Méroé, un empire sur le Nil (2010), il venait d’être nommé à un poste de maître de conférences à l’université Sorbonne Paris IV, l’une de ses missions étant d’y enseigner l’archéologie et l’histoire ancienne de la vallée du Nil Moyen.
Bien qu’il fut un “nouveau venu” dans l’archéologie du Soudan, avec la fouille qu’il a ouverte en 2006 pour le musée du Louvre à Mouweis, il a d’emblée montré tout son talent et le brillant futur auquel ses recherches nouvelles étaient promises.
La Société internationale des études nubiennes témoigne aux proches de Michel Baud de la grande tristesse tous éprouvent à la perte d’un tel collègue et présente à la famille ses plus sincères condoléances.

I have the very sad duty to announce to you the sudden death of Michel Baud who passed away on Thursday 13th September 2012. He was 49 years old.
After six years at the Département des antiquités égyptiennes in the Louvre, organizing among other tasks the exhibition Méroé, un empire sur le Nil (2010), he had just been appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Sorbonne University Paris IV, one of his missions being to teach the archaeology and ancient history of the Middle Nile Valley.
Although a “newcomer” to the archaeology of Sudan he demonstrated with the dig he began for the Louvre at Muweis, in 2006, all his talent and the brilliant future which his research promised.
The International Society for Nubian Studies shares with his relatives the great sorrow for the loss of such a colleague and offers to the family its deepest sympathy.
